Surrey Golf

Under 14s

Purpose and Aim

To give talented young golfers the opportunity to play competitive golf in a team environment and better their understanding of the game through the Surrey development Programme. Aimed at boys aged 13 and under.

Training / Coaching

The U14 category is split into 2 groups, the League Squad of 12 to 16 boys and the Development Squad of up to 24 boys. Both groups have training days throughout the golf season with Surrey coaches. These days normally consist of coaching in the morning and playing the course in the afternoon whilst being observed by the professionals. All training is based around short game, putting, course strategy and mindset. These sessions are also a great opportunity for some team bonding and forging friendships.

Matches

The U14's play home and away matches against other Counties from April through to October. These are generally singles match play events. The most prestigious competition is the South East Group inter counties league which involves 2 league tables with 1 home and 2 away matches. The squad also play a practice round the day before each match. The U14 lead coach attends all practice rounds and matches to observe play and advise on course strategy. The format for league matches is 12 a side triple match play, with 3 countries playing at each event. The winners of each league meet at the end of the season for the final.

Get Involved

Boys are encouraged to get involved in the very successful Rookie Tour events as these are a great opportunity to play competitive golf and show their ability. If county golf is of interest, please contact the Surrey office or U14 team manager for further details.
