Seniors

Purpose & Aim:

To produce the very best team that Surrey can offer in the over 55 year age group. To be able to compete at the very highest level against other counties, both regionally and nationally. To be considered for selection, a handicap index of 3.0 or below is required, with notable performances in county and national events beneficial.

Training & Coaching:

There are training sessions at the beginning of the season currently held at Silvermere Golf Club. These training sessions are supervised by Simon Peaford PGA, the Surrey Seniors' Coach.

Matches & Competitions:

Surrey Seniors are part of the England Golf Southeast Group (SEG) and play against the other 10 counties in the regional qualifier for the national finals. This is a two round event popularly known as the Six Man Qualifier.

The Seniors also play SEG League Matches against Kent, Hampshire and Sussex. These fixtures consist of 10 singles matches played over 18 holes.

The team is selected from a squad of approximately 20 players.

• Friendly match vs. Welsh Senior Champions at Pyle & Kenfig GC - 21st & 22nd March
• Friendly match vs. Hertfordshire at West Hertfordshire GC - Monday 22nd April
• Surrey Senior County Championship at Woodcote Park GC - Monday 29th & Tuesday 30th April
• Friendly match vs. Royal Wimbledon 1st Team at Royal Wimbledon GC - Sunday 12th May
• SEG League Match vs. Kent at Wildernesse GC - Thursday 23rd May
• Surrey Amateur Championship at Tandridge GC - Friday 31st May - Sunday 2nd June
• English Senior Men's Strokeplay Championship at Gog Magog GC & Saffron Walden GC - 5th-7th June
• R&A Senior Amateur Championship at Saunton GC - Tuesday 9th - Friday 12th July
• EG SEG Seniors' Qualifying (6-man) at Heythrop Park GC - Thursday 18th & Friday 19th July
• SEG League Match vs. Hampshire at Hockley GC - Thursday 1st August
• English Senior Men's Amateur Championship at Brancepeth Castle GC - Monday 12th - Friday 16th August
• SEG League Match vs. Sussex at Addington Palace GC - Wednesday 21st August
• EG SEG Seniors' Foursomes Preliminary at West Byfleet GC - Wednesday 28th August

Players are selected for league matches based on their performance in county, regional and national senior events.

The team are supported by a well-structured county office run by the county secretary and his team.
