Ian Attoe retains his Surrey County Senior Championship title!

Surrey County Seniors Championship (55+) - Betchworth Park Golf Club

17th October 2020

Due to the current Covid-19 situation this year’s re-scheduled Championship was played with a reduced field of 42 players and only over 18 holes, not the usual 36 spread over two days.

Normally on the second day alongside the main Championship there would also be a separate 18-hole competition for the over 65 to compete in, unfortunately there was no choice but to cancel it.

After a coffee and bacon roll the players started to make their way to the 1st tee where County President Terry Casey was waiting to start them off.

The conditions were tricky to say the least, with wind and rain that ensured the course played tougher than normal, this showed in some of the scores with the CSS coming out at 73.

Ian Attoe (Worplesdon) the 2019 Champion lead the way with a superb one under par 68 to retain the title, a fantastic effort and it has to be said so very well deserved, especially with such a quality score in these conditions. Tom Hawkings (Sunningdale) came in with a fine 71 for 2nd spot with Andy Smith (St Georges Hill) in 3rd with a 73.

Our thanks to Betchworth Park Golf Club for hosting the event and to all the staff who looked after the players and officials so well, making everyone feel so welcome. Our thanks also to the members for allowing us to use their wonderful course.

Finally thank you to all the Surrey volunteers and County rules officials who were on the course and at the reception /scoring desk helping make this event such a great day.

Congratulations to Ian Attoe for retaining the Championship.
