Weatherhead prevails at Cuddington

The last County Championship of 2025 took place at Cuddington GC on Thursday 28th August in the form of the U17 & U18 Championships.

The day started off flat calm with the sun splitting the sky but this only lasted a few hours before the wind and rain arrived to add to the test. However, the players were up to it evidenced by the low scoring and entertaining golf on display.

After Round 1, two players were under par. Firstly Luke Jackson, one of the youngest players in the field carded a 1 under par 70 before Lewis Dimayuga recorded a 2 under round of 69 in the final group. A very strong start from both which would be needed with a stacked chasing pack with notable rounds of 71 from Teddy Shaw, Brian Kim, Will Mannering, Kaiden Ironside, Sean Collins, Alex Mowbray and Harry Weatherhead.

As play started in the afternoon roars were heard from the 10th tee. A 397yard par 4. An eagle perhaps? Nope... Albatross! After driving the green in the morning, Will Mannering carded his first hole in one to go from level par to 3 under with his first shot of the round. Incredible scenes!

This quality of golf would continue with 3 players ending up under par and achieving a feat that believed to have happened only once before in that the 1,2,3 in the U18 division was also the 1,2,3 in the U17 division.

Lewis Dimayuga of Walton Heath followed his 69 up with a level par 71 to finish in third on countback.

Finishing second in some serious style was Will Mannering of Burhill courtesy of an entertaining round of 69.

This meant something special was required to win. And Harry Weatherhead (Burhill) provided just that. Despite three putting the 18th Harry produced an impressive 5under 66 to win by 3 and take home both The Mac Trophy and Millard Quaich.

What a fantastic days golf. Well done to all the competitors, thank you for keeping us all entertained. With the level of talent on display it is no surprise our teams have had so much success this year. Long may it continue!
