Our annual U12 4BBB Friendly match against a combined Hampshire/Sussex team took place on a sunny day at Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club on Sunday 3rd September.
Out first were AJ Van Emmenis and Joshua Jackson, who having put themselves 2 up through 9 holes, coasted to the highest winning margin of the day with a 6&4 victory.
Match 2 paired Yumin Do and Jack Robinson, who put up a good fight, but succumbed 2&1 to the opposition.
Sully Donald and Rhys Hughes were the Match 3 winners, in what was a real seesaw match, which had the Surrey pair 1 down after 9 holes, all square after 11, and then 1 down again after 12. Digging deep they took a 2&1 win.
Match 4 proved a closely contested affair, going all the way to the 18th hole, where Ralph Justice and Carlos Selig triumphed to take the win.
In the next match, Ethan Kwan and Michael Greve also took the match to the 18th, though on this occasion the opposition took the win.
Brian Kim and Harry Norris were all smiles walking off the 15th hole having won their match 4&3.
Three down after 9 holes, Joey Beale and Keagan Timmermans mounted a stout defence and took the match to the 17th before their opponents claimed a 2&1 win. Keagan produced a terrific tee shot on the 16th to within 3 feet, but unfortunately so did one of the opposition, who managed to hole out for a 2 and pile pressure on Keagan to do likewise. Sadly the birdie putt just slid past the hole.
In the final match Jack Austin and Luke Stachel, despite having a good outward 9, met stern opposition on the back 9 and recorded a 3&2 loss.
Overall the match was a draw with both teams winning four matches each.
After the match the team Captains gave their speeches with Ralph Justice doing the honours for Surrey.
Many thanks to Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club for loaning their course for the match.
