The annual friendly match between Surrey and Essex U13 players took place at Maylands Golf Club in Essex on Tuesday 29th August. The weather was dry, though cloudy, and provided ideal golfing conditions. The match format was singles matchplay.
In the lead match, Darragh Sidhu was All Square after 11 holes, but 2 down after 15, going on to lose the match 3&1.
Match 2 went all the way to the 18th, with Sully Donald being 2 down after 7 holes, 3 down after 11, and getting one back by 15 to be 2 down. Sully battled hard to square the match on the 17th and took victory on the 18th with a 20 foot putt.
Yumin Do, in Match 3, also took his match to the 18th, having been level after both the 11th and 15th holes. Unfortunately he lost on the 18th.
Match 4 was another to go all the way, with Euhwan Kim 2 up after 15, 1 up after 17 and winning the final hole to seal a 2 up victory.
Match 5 saw George Oliver losing on the 18th hole after another close match which didn't have more than one hole in it all the way.
Zaal Owen, playing in Match 6, took an emphatic 8&6 victory, having been 4 up after 7 and 7 up after 11.
Alex Mowbray was another to take his match all the way to the 18th before securing a 1 up win.
In Matches 8 and 9, Brian Kim and Ethan Kwan both fought hard but suffered 3&2 and 2&1 defeats respectively.
Luca Corlett was another to secure an emphatic result, with a 7&5 win on the 13th hole.
Match 11 brought a 2 up win for Michael Greve on the 18th green
Matches 12 and 13 saw Surrey wins, with Tom Foster beating his opponent 4&3, while Joey Beale took a 4&2 win.
Keagan Timmermans was 2 up after 11, and went on to take victory on the 18th hole after a spirited comeback from the Essex opponent.
Match 15 saw Essex take a 5&4 win over Jasper Metcalf who, despite battling hard, could not match the scoring of his opponent.
In the final match Leonidas Joseph was 4 down after 11 holes and managed to get back to be 1 up after 16. The match went all the way to the 18th and resulted in a half.
