U16 SEG League Match

The Surrey U16 team travelled to Mid Kent Golf Club in Gravesend for the first SEG League match of the season on Sunday 30th April. The opponents for this match were Kent & Sussex, and the format was three-ball match play. The team was made up of the following players:

  • Alex Alder (Wentworth)
  • Henry Bale (Cuddington)
  • Jamie Botton (Farleigh)
  • Sam Brown-Hall (Wentworth)
  • Harry McGuire (West Byfleet)
  • George Molloy (Walton Heath)
  • Jack Turner (Royal Mid Surrey)
  • Oskaras Valiauga (Foxhills)

After a very productive practice round with lead U16 coach Greg Brodie on the Saturday, the team was greeted with lovely sunny weather on Sunday. The boys all played well round a difficult Mid Kent layout, and both the Sussex & Kent matches were very close affairs. In the end, Surrey drew 4-4 with Sussex but unfortunately lost 5-3 to Kent, however there were positive signs of a good season ahead.

Thanks to Mid Kent Golf Club for hosting the match and to all the staff there for being so friendly and helpful. Thanks also to the Mid Kent members for giving up their course and for being so welcoming.
