First Team Match against Hindhead

Teeing off first for Surrey in the morning foursomes was Max O'Hagan and Jacob Austin going against Richard Gurney and Dougie Hunter, a close battle ensued with them going up the last with Hindhead 1up, Surrey was just off the back in 2 and Hindhead at the front of the green. Unfortunately, Surrey could not get up and down meaning the first match went to Hindhead.

Second out saw Mike Cox and Rory Hewitt of Hindhead against Josh Jameson and Cameron Bell, both teams making pars but Surrey eventually pulled ahead and ran out 3&2 winners.

David Primrose and Ben Palmer from Surrey took on Alex Macdonald and Les Bruckner, another close battle. Surrey went up early on, but Hindhead clawed it back to all square at the turn. With pars from both sides on the next few holes meant any mistake would be costly. However, with Surrey making a few birdies and solid pars they took a 4 & 3 win.

Kieran Lovelock and Ben Patterson of Hindhead take on Terry Nichols and Simon Crockett with yet another close battle commencing. Both teams played some particularly good golf but with Hindhead making fewer mistakes and some excellent putts, Hindhead took the win 3&1.

Going into lunch the teams were evenly matched at 2-2 with it all to play for in the singles.

After lunch Max took to the tee against Rory, this match was close all the way and went up the last with Max the eventual winner and Surrey taking the overall the lead.

Jacob and Dougie followed on and at the turn the match was all square. Jacob eventually pulled and won the match 2 & 1 with some good golf from both players.

Third out saw Cameron up against Richard, another match that was all square at the turn, but this match went the way of Hindhead and Richard won 2&1 after some solid golf.

Josh took on Alex in spot four and another close game followed with both playing some great golf. The match was even most the way round going down to the very last hole and walking off the 18th green with a draw.

After 4 games surrey led 4.5 to 3.5 so still all to play for.

Fifth out was David go against Mike, and again good golf from both players. Surrey was ahead at the turn and would secure the win by 4&3.

Terry against Ben took teed off sixth and after the loss in the foursomes Terry was up for a good game A close battle ensued with solid golf from both players. Terry would eventually secure the win 2up.

Seventh out saw Ben up against Les. A mistake from Les saw Ben go up early and with some unlucky breaks on the green for Les, Surrey was 3 up at the turn. Les kept fighting with birdie on 10 but an unforced error on the next saw Ben restore his lead. Ben then saw his lead slip at the next after an error but made up for it with a few birdies to eventually secure a 3&2 win.

Last on the tee was Simon up against Kieran, a battle that would go the distance, Kieran lead through the turn but Simon was not willing to give up and fought to take the match up the last with Hindhead being 1 up. Simon missed the green with Kieran on in 2, Simon felt he needed to hole his chip which unfortunately ran past. Kieran's putt came up short, but the putt was not given, Simon then had a putt for par which missed and conceded Kieran's putt for a 2-down loss.

Overall result was a win for Surrey win 7 1/2 - 4 ½.

Surrey would like to thank Hindhead for their hospitality with special thanks going to the green keepers for having the course in such excellent condition, the bar and catering staff for looking after us all day. With a special thanks to Andrew (vice-captain) for starting us off for both rounds.
