First Team narrowly miss out to Essex in the South East League Final

Following an unbeaten regular season, the County team qualified for the 2021 South East League final.

Wins over Dorset, Sussex and Kent combined with a draw away to Hampshire would see Surrey meet Essex in the Final at The Army Golf Club.

The original date of October 3rd was washed out, so the match was played on October 24th.

The morning foursomes were a tight affair with Essex just getting their heads in front 2.5-1.5. Ben Palmer & Jacob Aaholm winning and Harry Uzzell & Jack Kurzberg halving their match.

The singles were equally close all afternoon with the tide going back and forth a few times.

Essex won by the narrowest of margins after both teams winning 4 singles matches.

Harry Uzzell, Jack Kurzberg, Ben Palmer & Jacob Aaholm were the points scorers for Surrey.

There were First team debuts for 14 year old Kris Kim, who came very close to halving his singles match, and Jack Kurzberg who beat England international Zach Chegwidden.

Team for Surrey:

  • Harvey Byers
  • Harry Uzzell
  • Kris Kim
  • Terry Nicholls
  • Jack Kurzberg
  • Enrique Dimayuga
  • Ben Palmer
  • Jacob Aaholm

My thanks to all the players and spectators that came out to support us.
