U16 The Steven's Cup
U15 The James Heath Trophy
at Guildford GC
Monday August 23
Due to overnight heavy rain, at dawn it looked unlikely that the championship would be played, but the free-draining Guildford GC course held up extremely well, the greens were as true as ever, and not a sign of water in the bunkers.
The under 16 and under 15 championships were played simultaneously, and with some wonderful scoring the under 15 squad took most of the medals for both competitions. Both titles were won by Taylor Hutton from Foxhills who scored 69 and 72 for a total of 141. Nick Solomon from Richmond was U16 runner up on 143 and Jack Duguid from Foxhills was runner up in the U15s a further shot behind. In the afternoon Conor Coles from St George's Hill equalled Taylor's first round 69.
The afternoon play was in strong windy conditions, but the scores were still excellent. Over the day, 50% of the competitors scored within 2 shots of their handicaps, a sign of the current strength of Surrey junior golf.
