Young stars set to wow coaches at Surrey Golf Partnership Talent Days

Betchworth Golf Club (27^th October) and Hoebridge Golf Centre (29^th October) are set to be the venues for the second series of Surrey Futures Talent Days.

Young golfers from around the county have entered the event which was advertised in golf clubs and schools throughout Surrey.

Those young golfers who wow the coaches will be invited to join the 2010 Surrey Futures training squads.  The 2010 Surrey Futures training will provide coaching opportunities for over 220 boys and girls in Surrey and is aimed at giving young golfers with potential a quality coaching programme.

This coaching will be lead by a team of highly trained coaches at centres across the county.

This programme has been made possible due to funding from Sport England, National Training Initiative Club & Coach Programme along from additional contributions from the Surrey Golf Union and Surrey Ladies Golf Association. 

Betchworth and Hoebridge have been selected to host these talent days due to holding Golf Mark accreditation and commitment to junior golf development.

Surrey Futures is just one of a series of development initiatives run by the Surrey Golf Partnership (a partnership between the Surrey PGA, Surrey Ladies Golf Association, Surrey Golf Union and Golf Foundation). 
These include: 

Feel Inspired:- aimed at those with young disabilities

Girls Start Up:  beginner coaching at 20 centres across the county

THE SURREY GOLF SEARCH FOR TALENT

SURREY GOLF PARTNERSHIP – OPEN TALENT ASSESSMENT DAYS FOR JUNIOR GOLFERS

The Surrey Golf Partnership is launching the second year of the Surrey Futures programme.  This county wide coaching programme is aimed at identifying and encouraging talented junior golfers. Funds have been provided to support this initiative through the England Golf Partnership.

This programme is aimed at boys and girls aged 8 – 15, who have talent and interest but who are not part of the present County squad coaching programme. October 2009 will see the first in a series of events in this programme.

The first stage of this programme will be the staging of Open Talent Assessment Days to identify young golfers, boys and girls, who show talent and enthusiasm for the game. SGP is to run two Assessment Days in the week beginning 26 October 2009.

Following these days, it is planned to invite selected young people to move on to a County wide coaching programme based at County Training Academies to provide the necessary coaching support to enable the young golfers to attain their full potential and to have the opportunity to progress to the county junior squads.

The Open Talent Assessment Days will be held during October half term as follows:

Betchworth Park Golf Club         Tuesday 27^th  October 2009

Hoebridge Golf Centre               Thursday 29th October 2009

Each day will follow the same pattern. There will be a two hour session of assessment run by county coaches. The sessions will be split into three components – long game, short game and putting. There will be skills challenges plus a short discussion with one of the coaches.
