Covid-19 County Statement 15th July 2020

It is pleasing to see that with the lockdown continuing to be eased, allowing more flexibility, Clubs are now able to open their bars and catering, although with restrictions and safety procedures in place. In addition, many Clubs are now running internal competitions and accepting visitors, so taking this into account the County took the decision to resume the County Knock Out Competitions for Club Teams and individual members with effect 1st July.

As stated in earlier correspondence all League and nearly all friendly matches have now been cancelled for the entire season. There are a minimal number of National County Team events that England Golf are organising, likewise the South East Group are doing their utmost to play some County Finals.

Every effort will be made to play the Surrey County Championships later in the year, albeit in a reduced format and entry numbers also reduced, this will help alleviate the pressure on the clubs that kindly facilitate these events.

Regards the very popular County Card events, I am pleased to confirm that several of these will be going ahead, with the full support of the hosting Clubs. Some with their original dates, although some have had to be rescheduled. Information regards these will be on the Surrey website in the next 7 days.

We have also taken the decision to reintroduce the County training programme, albeit in much smaller groups and adhering to Government guidelines as required. Plans are currently being drawn up and will be distributed to the individuals involved in due course.

All other Surrey County activities that were planned for August have been either postponed or cancelled.

I can assure you we don’t take any decision lightly and always take into consideration the safety of the players, volunteers, Surrey staff who run the events, not to mention those at the Clubs that host us.

As we have over the past few months, we will continue to monitor and review the situation on a month by month basis, taking guidance from the Government and England Golf.

As always, our priority is the health and well-being of our players, coaches, referees, volunteers, employees, and staff working at golf clubs and the wider golfing community.

We thank you for your patience and understanding during these unprecedented times.

Cheers and stay safe.
