County Card St George's Hill Meeting Nov 7
for the Mitchell Cup
On a cold damp morning players from across the County made their way to the beautiful and challenging St Georges Hill Golf course for the penultimate County Card Meeting of the year.
Although there had been a high volume of rain overnight the course was in fine condition, many of the players commenting on just how much they enjoyed playing it, even those who didn’t have their best day’s golf on what is a challenging course.
Despite the sun making an appearance there was a stiff cold breeze, it was chilly to say the least, but this didn’t deter the 70 odd players as they tee it up on the 1st and the 10th tees, after a coffee and bacon roll.
The speed of play by all the players was excellent, as it has been in the previous events. Given the damp conditions and little roll on the ball the scoring was impressive with some very good scores coming in, just 1 point separated the top five.
In addition to the normal nearest The Pins, prizes today were given from 1st to 5th place, so after the usual wonderful three course meal the prize presentation got underway.
Tony Robbins (Chipstead) won the nearest The Pin on the 3rd with Barry Smale (R.A.C) getting closest on the 11th.
Three players finished on 37pts and after countback, Trevor Dark (Surrey Downs) took 5th place, Charlie Middleton (Effingham) 4th and John Beadle (Silvermere) in 3rd spot.
The top two finished with 38pts each so also had to be separated by countback, Carl Hawgood (Surrey Downs) was the runner up with Nick McCormack (Dulwich & Sydenham) just pipping him to take the Cup.
Our thanks to St Georges Hill Golf Club for hosting the event and making everyone feel so welcome.
The last meeting of the year is at Walton Heath on Wednesday 4th December, the entry forms are on the Surrey web site, places are going fast so if you want to play don’t delay in entering.
See you at Walton Heath, happy golfing.
