Result: Surrey 37, Hampshire 31, Sussex 4
For some reason the Sussex Salver always seems to be a bit of a banana skin for Surrey, who historically always make hard work of it and this year was to be no different. 10 of the 13 boys had prepared by attending the practice round on a very firm, bouncy, undulating golf course which presented some very interesting holes, number 4 in particular. For some of the boys, 6 of the 13 this was to be their last U14's Salver.
The team met early to run through notes and course management before the first three ball were underway. At the half way point Hampshire looked to be in front in a number of matches, although some were marginal and hung in the balance. All credit to Hampshire who have invested certainly more time and I am sure more money in to their junior golf and the organisation and hard work looks to be paying dividends.
With a few holes to go Surrey looked to have edged in to a slender lead and some very important halves were taken on the last. With the final group coming down the last Surrey had managed to secure the Salver for another year without relying on this result. Dinner was served, speeches were given by all three captains and Surrey U14's captain Aidan Millham was presented with the Salver.
