Surrey County Club Foursomes Championship
Reigate Hill Golf Club
28th & 29th June 2019
A relatively small but high-quality field of players arrived at Reigate Hill Golf Club on a lovely warm summer’s day for the County Club Foursomes Championship. The format was to be 36 holes medal qualifying on Friday with the top four pairs going into the semi-finals on Saturday morning and the 3rd & 4th play off and the final itself in the afternoon.
After the morning round the father and son pair of Simon and Charlie Crockett (Addington Palace) led the way with a solid 72. Only 3 shots separated the next eight pairs, making it all to play for in the afternoon.
Another 72 in the afternoon round for the Crocketts meant they lead the way qualifying in 1st place with 144, second went to Clandon Regis pairing of Stephen Hobson & Edward Keep with 76 & 71 for a 147 total, 3rd went to the home Club pair Jacob Aaholm & Kevin Lee with two very contrasting rounds, a 79 in the morning and a lowest of the day 69 in the afternoon! Fellow Reigate Hill pairing Mike Ducker & Ben Palmer made up the final qualifiers for Saturday with 76 & 73 for 149
On a baking hot day, the first Semi-Final match up was Simon & Charlie Crocket v Mike Ducker & Ben Palmer with the Crocketts winning 3&2. The second Semi-Final was won by Stephen Hobson & Edward Keep against Jacob Aaholm & Kevin Lee.
After a well-earned rest and some lunch, the Finalists from Addington Palace and Reigate Hill went out to do battle for the Championship in temperatures now reaching into the mid 30’s!
Simon Crockett & Charlie Crockett (Addington Palace) v Jacob Aaholm & Kevin Lee (Reigate Hill)
Addington Palace took an early lead winning the 1st hole, only for Reigate Hill to fight straight back and win the 2nd taking the match back to A/S, the next five holes were halved.
The 8th, 9th & 10th were won by Addington Palace but Reigate Hill against fought back to take the 11th & 12th. The 13th was halved and Reigate Hill won the 14th to bring the match back to levels again. The 15th was shared but then Addington Palace took the 16th and 17th to win 2&1. It had been an excellent final, first going one way then the other, and congratulations to Simon & Charlie Crockett, the first father and son team to win this Championship!
Third place was taken by Reigate Hill pair Mike and Ben.
The prizes were presented by Surrey Secretary Steve McNeill.
