A total of 43 boys and girls with ages ranging from 10yrs
to 16yrs took part in the Surrey Schools Higher Handicap Championship at
Chipstead Golf Club on Thursday 25th April.
Winner of the Girls Championships (12-36hcp) was Hannah Link from Collingwood School, Camberley with a total of 40 pts. Charlotte Woodham, also from Collingwood, was a close 2nd with 39pts
The Boys' Championships (12-28hcp) was a closely fought affair with 12 year old Jaden Hanson from Salesian School, Chertsey winning with 41pts from Martin Hempston of Glyn School, Epsom with 40pts.
The team trophy (The Whitfield Shield) which was the result of the two best scores from a team of three, was won by Salesian School with 77pts. Glyn School also had 77pts but lost on countback due to a lower set of "back nine" scores.
The Salesian team was Jaden Hanson (Wentworth) 41pts: Harvey Pitt (Surbiton)36pts; and Leo Sant (Burhill) 33pts.
Teachers, parents and grandparents were very complimentary about the welcome they were given at Chipstead and also commented favourably about the condition of the course and the challenges that it presented to the young golfers.
