U13 beat Essex at Farleigh

U13 Boys beat Essex

Surrey U13 boys hosted the Essex team at Farleigh Golf Club on Masters Sunday for 16 a side friendly. The format was 4 ball better ball, scratch matchplay with 1 point for the front 9, 1 point for back 9 and 2 points for overall result for each match. Farleigh GC has 3 nine holes and we played the Yellow and Blue courses.

Whilst the weather was dry, it was extremely cold with a bitter wind. The starter reported there had been a flurry of snow first thing that morning! Woolly hats, gloves and snoods were a must - another reminder to be prepared for all conditions!

As usual the golf was of an excellent standard. Essex were off to a great start with Eagles on the par 5 first hole from two different groups. One Essex boy started Eagle, Birdie, Birdie!

At the half way point Surrey were down in one match, all square in 2 matches and up in 5 matches although 3 of these matches were only 1up.

Surrey came out strong on the back 9, eventually winning by 27 points to 5.

Back to the warmth of the club house with the boys playing pool, watching some of the masters and having a meal of burger and chips. The day was concluded with speeches from both team Captains.

Superb performances by the Surrey boys and congratulations to Alex Alder for his first match representing Surrey.
