Boys Scratch KO final at Sunningdale is won by David Gurr for a third year!

Congratulations to David Gurr (Burhill) clinching the Surrey Boys Scratch knockout in a great Final played against club mate Tom Corrigan. It was the third year in a row that David has won this knock out competition, a fantastic achievement!

This year’s final was hosted by Sunningdale on the New course, our thanks to them. Surrey Rules Official Gordon Phillips was the referee for the match and our thanks to him also.

Tom got off to a fast start in terrible conditions, building a 2-up lead, however David pulled back to lead Tom at the 10th. Tom then got the match back to All square on the 11th. Both players then traded pars until the 15th when Tom found himself blocked with his second shot to the green and had to concede the hole when Dave put his second shot to 10ft.

Going down the Par five 18th, Tom had to win the hole to extend the match. He will have felt encouraged when Dave found himself blocked on the right with very little room for his second shot. With his second shot Tom hit to just in front of the green, David then plays a remarkable recovery shot to end up just short in the right-hand green side bunker.

Tom plays his chip to 8ft, Dave then plays the shot of the day from the bunker, holing out with his bunker shot to eagle the final hole and win.

This is the last year both boys are eligible, and they provided a fitting final. Great stuff!
