U18 and U16 play Wiltshire at Merrist Wood

Juniors beat Wiltshire in a mixed age group match In 2017 we started a match against Wiltshire aimed at the age groups from U15 to U18 and this year we hosted it at Merrist Wood on Sunday 26th August.

Wiltshire are a very good County and were English Boys County Champions in 2016.

The Surrey team included 7 U16’s and 5 U18’s and we played as Four Ball Better Ball match play.

Wiltshire arrived early at Merrist Wood to warm up but the weather was dreadful all day so that was not a good idea - it rained hard all day but we decided to play the match in bad conditions as the course was (just) playable.

We played some great golf with Killian McGinley and Enrique Dimayuga leading us off winning 3&2 - they were 3 under par!

Tom Hawke with Jack Evans, Jack Roberts with Jack Osborne won their matches and Elliot MacGregor with Rowan Noble drew.

Ben Partridge with Like Barnes and David Gurr with Matthew Hawke lost.

It was a good team performance in very difficult conditions. Our Captains on the day were Killian McGinley for the U18’s and Matthew Hawke for the U16’s.

We plan to go back down to Wiltshire next year but may move it to earlier in the season and use it as a warm up match before the Leagues start.

Our thanks to Ian Welding from Wiltshire for organising their team and Steve McNeill and Gary Barthram from Surrey for helping with teams and arranging the event.

Also, to John Noble for helping on the day.
