Last week, Sunbury boys Tom Corrigan, Harry Dean and Owen Fox travelled down to Frilford Heath GC to compete in the annual Junior Champion Club tournament. With Addington Palace having taken 2nd place last year for Surrey, expectations were high for Sunbury to go one step further!
The first day the boys had a morning tee off where they battled in some wet and difficult conditions to post a creditable 74 points for the day - courtesy of a fantastic 40 points for Harry Dean and 34 points for Tom. This left Sunbury in a tie for 6th place after day one, just 6 points behind overnight leaders St Mellion of Cornwall. The second day was thankfully a little drier and the boys took full advantage of the better scoring conditions with both Tom and Harry posting 39 points and Owen shooting a terrific 40 points. The combined 79 points was enough to jump ahead of St Mellion to top spot as the Sunbury 3rd card score was better.
However some fantastic scoring from Horeshay Village meant they would overtake Sunbury for the title.
But it was a strong determined finish from the Sunbury boys representing Surrey to finish in second place overall.
