Surrey Club Foursomes Championship

at Farnham GC
Friday 13 July

white tees
36 holes

The 2018 County Club Foursomes Championship was hosted by Farnham Golf Club on a baking hot Friday, although the fairways were brown due to the recent weather the tees and greens were in perfect condition for this 36-hole event.

The course was difficult due to the hard conditions and some thick punishing rough for those who strayed off the fairways. This showed in the scoring with only two pairs, Walton Heaths Jack Finch & Bailey Osborne and Richard Barnes & Alex Tonge from Burhill, breaking par, both coming in with excellent 70’s, for two under.

After an excellent lunch put on by the Club the players headed back out to the 1st tee to complete their second round.

Unbelievably the rain came in during the afternoon rounds, which caught a few players out, they clearly thought wet weather gear wasn’t thought to be a requirement, wrong. But the water was certainly welcomed by the course if not the players!

The afternoon conditions had changed slightly due to the rain although the course was still not forgiving with no pair breaking par. Joint leaders Jack and Bailey came in with a four over 76 for a +2 total for the day, two groups later Richard and Alex came in with a two over par 74 for a level par 144 total for the day and with no other pairs scoring better they were the Champions. Sean Mullan & Harry Uzzell of Wentworth took 3rd spot with scores of 73 + 75 for a 148 total.

It had been a great day’s golf, with many players complimenting the course and Club.

Our thanks to Farnham Golf Club for hosting this event and presenting the course in such good condition despite the recent hot weather, also thanks to the volunteers who helped make the day such a success.

Congratulations to Richard Barnes & Alex Tonge of Burhill the 2018 Surrey County Club Foursomes Champions.

     notes to players

We still have places available  - As many pairs from a Club can enter, it’s no longer just two pairs that the Club pays for, as it used to be, the players may pay for themselves if they wish to enter.

The pairs can be adult or junior but have to be males with the correct handicap level.
