U14 beat Middlsex

The Surrey U14 Squad opened their account this year with an away trip to Sudbury Golf Course to play a Middlesex U14 team. We were set for a great day on a well maintained ‘Harry Colt’ course in beautiful sunshine……….unfortunately we only reminded at a very late stage that this venue was a stones through from Wembley stadium where an FA Cup Semi Final was also being held on the day. So mild panic set in just to get the day started and to get the boys there on time!

This being a friendly fixture the format for the day was a 12-a-side match under the 4BBB rules with 1 point being awarded for a win on the front 9, 1 point for the back 9 and 2 points being awarded for overall match. So a total of 24 points were on offer!

The Surrey boys certainly stepped up a notch on the day though and some great golf and teamwork showed through.

Our first group of Oliver Wren and Rocky Chapman comfortably won their front 9, back 9 and overall match……so 4 points on the board.

Our second group of Nathan Woodham and Aidan Millham struggled through the front 9 losing it one down but they rallied through the next 9 holes winning the back 9 and the overall match 3&1. Three more points for Surrey.

Group 3, made up of Hashim Banday and Tom Kelly made easy work of their match. Winning the front 9, back 9 and overall match with ease. Four more points for Surrey.

Our fourth group of Luca Knowles and Cameron Cridge, also played extremely well, especially winning the front 9 by 5&4, then the back 9 before cruising to a comfortable winning margin of 8&6. Four more points.

Our fifth group of Kris Kim and Sam Wood were not going to be left out either! They comfortably won their front and back 9 competition before posting the best result of the day, a resounding 8&7 victory overall. Four more points.

Finally, our sixth group out of Edward Dimayuga and David Razinskas entered the fray! They strugglked on the front 9 losing 2 down but staged a great fight back to win the back 9 and their match over all by 2&1. So another 3 points for Surrey.

Overall result: Surrey WON 22 points to 2 points.

A much need dinner was enjoyed by all, and we thanks Middlesex Golf for their hospitality, and some inspiring words were said by our Captain for the day, Oliver Wren, before we all headed home!
