Cup (U14) and the Usmar Salver (U13)
On a somewhat wet and dreary summers day at Bramley Golf Club the County U13 and U14 Championships took place and despite the weather it produced a super day of junior golf. The 60 competitors with handicaps ranging from 3 to 24, with the youngest entrant aged just 9 years old showed just how strong junior golf in the County is.
With two Championships the format is 18 holes scratch medal, and although an U14 can obviously only win the U14 title an U13 player is eligible for both.
In the U13 category Wentworth’s Rocky Chapman took the Championship honours and the Usmar Salver with a fine 74, four shots clear of 10 year old Kris Kim of Cuddington in 2nd with Hashim Banday from Royal Mid-Surrey a further shot back.
The Olga Mills Cup presented to the U14 Champion was won by Elliot MacGregor from Burhill with a three over par 72, which in these conditions was an excellent score. Two shots behind in 2nd place was last year’s U13 winner Shergo Kurdi, who pushed Rocky Chapman into 3rd on count back.
Our thanks to Bramley Golf Club and all the staff who looked after everyone so well and made everyone feel so welcome and of course the members for giving up their course for the morning.
Also a big thank you to all the Surrey volunteers who gave up their time to ensure the event was so successful, without these people it would be very difficult to run these events.
