This year’s Tillman Trophy was held on 18th – 20th
July at Knole Park Golf Club, near Sevenoaks, in Kent.
The venue, chosen for it’s close association with the founder Bill Tillman and his son Adam, proved to be a wonderful location with its wildlife, penal areas consisting of trees and tall ferns off the fairways, beautiful fast-running greens and particularly a very helpful group of members who assisted play by ball spotting in the most challenging parts of the course.
The layout had been lengthened by the addition of several new back tees, resulting in two par fives in each half of the
course. In particular, the new tees on 2nd and 18th holes provided a particular challenge to all the long-hitting contestants.
Sixty six was the best score on the first day, scored by four players, and sixty seven the best on the second day, scored again by only four players. The cut was made at 144, allowing only 45 players through to the final two rounds.
So on conclusion of the 72 holes three players recorded total scores of 276, and after two holes of a “sudden death” playoff the winner was declared and presented with the Tillman Trophy by Adam Tillman.
Winner - Taylor Stote 67 + 71 + 70 + 68
Runners-Up - William Whiteoak 74 + 70 + 66 + 66
Olly Huggins 67 + 71 + 68 + 70
Surrey Golf would like to thank the Captain, Secretary, officers and members of Knole Park for all their help, and especially the course manager Gavin Kyle who coped with lightning, thunder and storms to provide a great golf course in superb condition.
