The Mid-Age Championship
at Cuddington GC
Friday 14 July
This year’s Mid-Age Championship was held at Cuddington
Golf Club, a terrific and very popular venue, which is no surprise as the
greens staff, always present the course in such pristine condition, especially
the greens that were true and very quick today.
The weather for the two rounds was very different, in the morning it was cloudy with a slightly chill wind but the afternoon was sunny and very warm. The weather change obviously didn’t affect the players in any way, from the quality golf that was displayed and the scores that came in.
With plus handicappers in this high quality field it was always going to take two good rounds to claim the title, and so it proved with Dominic Griffiths of Walton Heaths shooting rounds of 71 & 70 for a one under par total, excellent golf indeed. Although Dominic didn’t have it all his own way and was pushed hard by Phil Britton (Surrey Downs) and Peter Jackson (Woking) both of whom finished one shot behind, with Phil taking the runners up spot on count back.
The Club team pair competition was won by Phil Britton and Matthew John of Surrey Downs with a 290 total.
Our thanks to Cuddington and all the staff who looked after everyone so well, especially the kitchen who put on an absolutely fabulous lunch that was enjoyed by all the competitors and officials.
