The Seniors' Championship Qualifying Round

at Surbiton GC

Wednesday 31 May

white tees

A new format of playing the 36-hole championship over two days was tried for the first time, following the England Golf guidelines.  The host course, Surbiton GC, was in beautiful condition and the clubhouse service was excellent.

Forty three players started on the first day, with the best thirty scores plus ties going forward to the final day. Both our National players, Keith Waters (West Byfleet G.C.) and Ian Attoe (Worplesdon G.C.) , returned excellent scores of 69 and 70 respectively to lead the field into the second day.

Keith and Ian played in the same match on day two, and swapped shot for shot, both finishing with a score of 70, for Keith to take the trophy, for the fourth consecutive year, with a combined score of 139. Martin Cooper (Reigate Hill G.C.) came in third with an excellent total of 149.

Age-related prizes were also given for those choosing to play only on the second day, the winners being:-

Over 70’s – Roger Vincent (Burhill G.C.) - gross 77

Over 65’s – Ian Booker (Cuddington G.C.) – gross 78

Nett prize – Simon White (West Surrey G.C.) – nett 70
